2007 Excellence in the Field of Aging
Awards
The North Carolina
Association on Aging is delighted to announce the winners of the
2008 Excellence in the Field of Aging Awards. The awards were
presented on April 26, 2007 during the Excellence in Aging Awards
Luncheon at the 2007 NCAOA Annual Training Conference at the
Blockade Runner Resort and Conference Center in Wrightsville Beach,
NC. Congratulations to Angela DeVito (Davidson County
Department of Senior Services), Armeta Coley (Upper Coastal Plain
COG Area Agency on Aging), and Elaine Patterson (Senior Services,
Inc.).

Angela
DeVito: Recipient of the 2008 Employee of the Year – Service
Excellence Award . This
award honors an employee for the quality of direct service they
provide to older adults in their community.
|

Angela
DeVito is
the Senior Center Coordinator for the Davidson County Department
of Senior Services. Angela has been employed by Senior Services
for 11 years where she manages the day-to-day operations of the
Lexington
Senior
Center. In 1999, she
advocated for & secured a
Senior
Center
facility. Angela
envisioned the new center to be exemplar in providing daily
activities & services to meet diverse needs of county’s
seniors. She
coordinated others to develop innovative activities, secured
funding for a total body fitness center & computer lab.
Angela led the
Senior
Center
to be the 1st center of excellence in Region G. Angela
served 1294 county seniors last year to move the
Lexington
Senior
Center
to become a model center & Angela to be a model coordinator.

Armeta
Coley: Recipient of the 2008 Supervisor of the Year - Management
Excellence Award.
This
award honors a
supervisor for quality supervisory skills in the management of
programs and staff they provide that benefit older adults. |

Armeta Coley is the Regional Ombudsman for the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments
Area Agency on Aging. She
has worked in this capacity for 20 years.
Armeta oversees the daily work of 1 staff person.
In addition, she answers questions & provides guidance
in LTC. Most notable, she began and continues her commitment to
Down East Senior Games /Adaptive Events, which is a model for
state. Armeta trains
other Ombudsman and interviewed & photographed 4 residents for
FACES. Armeta also
made sure area church members understood Part D & the Medicare
Advantage push.

Elaine
Patterson: Recipient of the 2008 Executive of the Year -
Leadership Excellence Award. This
award honors a Chief Executive/Administrative Officer for the
quality of leadership and organizational management they provide
to their organization and to the aging network. |

Elaine
Patterson
is Executive Vice President of Senior Services in Winston-Salem.
Elaine has been a leader in the field of aging over 34
years. She is a
trusted source of information and knowledge on aging issues and is
respected by all who have the privilege of working with her.
The budget of Senior Services has quadrupled with growth in
programs that Elaine manages.
Not only has the budget grown, Elaine has overseen the
growth of the physical property of Senior Services from small
rented offices to a beautiful 30,000 square foot new building.
Elaine has spearheaded the implementation of the
Aging & Disability
Resource
Center
initiative in the county. Elaine
conveys passion and vision, setting goals that galvanize others to
achieve their best. She
has always led by example. The positive impact of Elaine’s
exemplary leadership and dedicated service on behalf of the
elderly will be widely felt for many years to come.
